The Local Building Department Directory is now accessible. Simply put in the city, zip code, or jurisdiction (the building department that has regional legal authority) where the property you are interested in is located, and you'll get a bundle of information. You will have all of the contact information that you need for the building departments that are responsible for the property. Although you cannot purchase permits online without a contractor's license, you can print out applications for the permits, and many cities and counties will accept applications through the mail.
